DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATIONS

"Everything that can be counted does not necessarily count; everything that counts cannot necessarily be counted" --- Einstein

After studying each case of reading disability, the examiner will find it helpful to list these five general causative areas, constitutional, intellectual, emotional, education, and environmental, then itemize under each al the factors discovered which may help to explain the child’s difficulties.  – Monroe & Backus. 1937

In all remedial work, the teacher should start first with the child and then find the appropriate method. Fit the method to the child, not the child to the method. – Monroe, 1935

Dr. Newman has worked as clinical and school psychologist for over 35 years. He has worked in Early Intervention settings, pre-schools, elementary, middle and high schools. He has worked in psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, clinics, and in private practice alongside neuropsychiatrists. He has a keen understanding of the issues across the life span so that he is able to distinguish diagnostic distinctions that many other clinicians may not be familiar with.

While Dr. Newman has particular expertise in the areas indicated below, you or your child may have a difficulty or condition that does not appear to fit into any specific category or you may not know the specific name for the difficulty. Do not hesitate to call Dr. Newman to discuss these difficulties as the intake process and evaluation may well clarify what is happening.
